Ethiopian Electric Power is an Ethiopian electrical power industry and state-owned electric producer. It is engaged in development, investment, construction, operation, and management of power plants, power generation and power transmission. Ethiopian Electric Power Authority (EELPA) was established in 1955(1948 E.C). The corporation was reorganized in to two entities, Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) and Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) in 2013(2006 E.C). Ethiopian Electric Power owns and operates the Ethiopian national power grid with all high voltage power transmission lines above 66 kV including all attached electrical substations and almost all power plants within the national power grid (with the exception of some co-generation power plants belonging to the state-owned Ethiopian Sugar Corporation). Ethiopian Electric power is almost the state monopoly in generating electric power for the national power grid. The Ethiopian Electric Power has been accomplishing many tasks in the past years. In particular, the construction of power generation plants is one of the major activities given to EEP to be carried out. In this regard, it is building various power generation projects from water, wind, solid waste and geothermal energy sources.
