Established in 1969 under the (EIAR), is a premier Ethiopian research facility located near Adama. It specializes in dryland farming, horticulture, and crop research, having released over 1,600, often climate-resilient, varieties. The center plays a crucial role in agricultural, food science, and irrigation research. Key programs include horticulture (fruits and vegetables), dryland crops (sorghum, maize, pulses), biotechnology, food science, and agricultural engineering.
